Hey y’all! Hedone’s been quiet because I’m going through a blurgh phase in terms of my health. What I’m realising is how often I speak about community and how I’ve been trying to get to a point where I can feel comfort asking for help. So here I am. I’m inspired by Annika Izora’s Skill Trade sheet and would appreciate y’all letting me know if you feel there’s something you can offer in exchange for what I can. I’ve also attached the empty templates she’s designed so that y’all can post them as well if and when you feel like you’d like to ask or offer anything with the babies here ❤️ Okay byyyye 🌻 Wait, also feel free to let me know if you need more info about what I’m looking for. More than happy to chat through it.

Let me know what y’all think. I wanna create an application for a series of workshop I’d like us to host as a community 👀 Allow people to submit literally anything, and get paid for it, as long as it somehow links to pleasure. If you need some support developing your workshop, we can do that together. I’m thinking literally anything from gardening, yoga, communication, painting, crafts, teach us skills like taking nudes, making new friends, dreaming big - whatever! What do y’all think?

These last couple weeks have been so busy on my side that I’ve done such a terrible job of checking in with myself. So im making more space for that. I’m feeling better than I have in months! There’s a slight guilt that comes with that that I’m trying to work my way though. I’m also terrified and overwhelmed because I’ll be going into initiation to become a sangoma soon. I’ve known it was coming but it feels so real that it’s less than a month away. I probably won’t be sharing much about this journey outside of this space. That‘s how I am. Grateful my depressive episode has passed, leaning into what feels good and yet still, frightened about what the future is holding for me. So here is a space asking you to do the same, to reflect on how you’re doing. How are you, really?

So I’m realising I think and talk about orgies a LOT. Then I think about this comic a friend of mine sent me sometime last year… now I wonder if isolation is part of the reason why I now crave orgies? 😂 Like, being WITHIN the body fluids of multiple people without worry sounds like a dream right now, no? Noticed anything about the things you’re desiring lately?

Loves! I come to you today with wonderful news. Nkgopoleng Moloi reached out to me this weekend, with a few questions about Hedone. I always say that this is a community-led space and this one of the moments where I get to put those words into practice. The questions she’s asked are below, please answer a few of the ones that speak to you (start with q 5 for some lightness ) and let me know how you’d prefer to be quoted in the piece 🥰 I’m excited to be doing this together! 🌸 1. When I look at Hedone, I see sassy, funky, beautiful and sincere. Can you tell us a bit about Hedone and how you would describe the work that you do? 2. Can you tell us a little bit about why you think pleasure matters? Well, maybe first of all the question is what is pleasure, and then why does it matter? 3. I once read a beautiful quote in relation to trauma and healing by Bongani Kona that I don’t think I’ll ever forget; “I’m trying to understand the past tense of hurt”. I guess what I’m getting at is the question of healing. What is your relationship to healing (particularly thinking about trauma and black womxn, black queer bodies etc)? How do you think through and feel through healing when the “hurt” is still very present — just this month thinking about Nosicelo Mtebeni and Samantha Zungu. 4. The internet has the potential for bringing people together in really powerful ways, but it often has a dark side too. How have you experienced a community on the internet in relation to the work you do? And how do you keep the trolls at bay? 5. I came across this quote by Adrienne Maree Brown on your Instagram page — “Feeling good is not frivolous. It is freedom.” Can you tell me which a) book b) piece of music c) piece of art d) food e) beverage f) clothing item g) meme is giving you pleasure right now? 6. The platform has been live for close to a year now? How has it evolved from some of the original intentions; what has surprised you in terms of the direction that it is taking? 7. What would you say the relationship is between pleasure and “NO”? 8. I think that a lot of us struggle with what I might call “healthy pleasure”, hence we fall prey to unhealthy behaviours such as binge drinking, unsafe sex practices, binge eating etc. To those struggling with creating pleasurable lives, what are some things to keep in mind in that journey to receiving and giving pleasure?

I’ve been in mourning for as long as this pandemic has been in our lives and YHO a bitch is exhausted! This morning I woke up in tears, then spent a couple hours crying and masturbating? Seems to have helped though because my mood perked up. Sigh. These are things I want to share but I stay doubting myself so here I am, being courageous in a space we’re building to be safe and brave for all of us 🤞🏽❤️ How are y’all doing?
